Forty Adventures #9D – January

These posts have been very picture heavy which is probably for the best. Who doesn’t prefer to see me sit in a vibrating, passion-measuring chair to my run-on sentences blabbing about CB radio chatter? I do feel like my blog got away from me visiting weird places and educating the world on what I’ve found and to just documenting my trips to them instead. After my official “40 adventures” are over, I’ll see what I can do about getting back to the heart of why this blog was created. For now though, more pictures of me doing stupid things with Dr. Jen.

Forty Adventures #9C – January

We rented this really cute bungalow on Long Beach, Washington a few blocks from the beach. Our goal was to see a few sights, get a few pennies, relax on the beach, and watch the fireworks scheduled to be set off over the water at midnight. Instead it rained. Actually it poured. The fireworks were canceled but damned if we didn’t have a good time anyway! Take that weather!

Forty Adventures #9B – January

We had a lot of setbacks on our trip (and quite a few pleasant surprises). On day 2 we were supposed to take a turbo-clipper boat from Seattle to Victoria, BC to stay the day and night with one of the loves of my life, Emilia. Who knew that the boat would sell out? It’s an everyday ferry that we assumed would just have seats. A few days before we left the East Coast I decided to pay for the tickets online and found out there weren’t any left and driving to Victoria was not feasible. That’s okay, we rebounded and came up with new, last minute plans to visit Leavenworth, Washington.

Forty Adventures #9A – January

For my January adventure I spent the end of 2019 through the first week of January touring the Pacific Northwest. This trip was a fall back into the theme of “tourist traps, tacky gift shops, and Americana.” It’s good to get back to my roots of Fiji mermaids and America’s largest crap that no one asked for. I stayed at my first AirBnBs on this trip, got my first rental car in over a year, and got dozens of smashed pennies. This trip was a big success and you will be getting 8 straight days of posts covering it. Lucky you!

Forty Adventures #2 – June

Second month, second big adventure. The weekend of 6/21 I took part in The Green Mountain Adventure Challenge hosted by Vermontime. There are three different challenges but because of limited time and money only took on the Dover, VT challenge. This thing was hard! We found out it’s a social event, we wouldn’t have really gotten started had it not been for 2 other groups. One of those groups would have never finished without us. It was less physically challenging (except the end) than we thought but much more mentally challenging.

You’re not famous until you’re a Pez dispenser. – CF

The weekend before Halloween I went on a bucket list adventure that turned into a lame but funny disaster. I’ve long thought Salem, Massachusetts would be a fantastic place to celebrate one of my favorite holidays. It might be but I’ll have to go back to find out. I did see some wannabe The Craft era Fairuza Balks, but everyone was too soaked and covered to really show off any costumes. This trip is gonna be written as a two parter to keep the posts of a manageable size. My senior year English teacher told us that our writings should be the length of a pretty girl’s skirt. Long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep your interest. That shit would never fly in school today.  Feel free to not read and just look at the fun pictures.

“At Motel 6 in Amish Country I wonder if they leave the light on for you?” – JL

I squeaked a trip in just under the wire. My one summer road trip was on Labor Day, basically what I consider the end of the season. I’ve been working non-stop and have had little time to do anything, so I’m extremely happy for my respite driving into and through Amish country. It’s been forever since I traveled, blogged, or basically did anything in life. I’m totally going to change that…maybe…we’ll see…who knows?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.” – MT

One of the big items on my mom’s bucket list was to go to Ireland. She always wanted to go with my dad and kept putting it off. Sadly my dad passed having never left the country. When my mom got sick in 2015 I promised when she was better I was going to finally take her. True to my word, I took my mom for her first trip out of North America at the end of April 2018.

Day 19: SEE ROCK CITY

see-rock-city-barn-lucky-mojo-curio-company-forestville-california

Guess what I got to see today. Originally I only intended to go to Rock City because it’s right on the TN/GA border and by adding Georgia I officially hit 50% of the states on one trip. Once I read Mr. Hollis’ book “See Rock City” however, it became an important stop. His book detailing the attraction and life of its creator kept my attention from page one. I even forced a co-worker (sorry Darlene) into reading passages that I thought were especially great.

Day 17: Well I’ve never been to Heaven but I’ve been to Oklahoma. – HA

Day 17 was a long day. A really long day. Google says it is 777 miles between my Day 16 and Day 17 motels. Of course I had several detours making one tired Andy. I got to my room at 11:30pm and had to be on the road today at 6:30am. I also lost an hour due to a change in time zone so you can understand why this post is a day late. All of that driving was worth it and I had 2 great days.
