Recently a friend returned from a 2.5 year trip abroad. He spent time in Africa serving in the Peace Corps and then time in Europe with his wonderful, German fiance that he met during his service. Before he left he was my roommate for 4 years. Tyler, his brother, and I are as close as family can be. Tyler helped take care of my father in his final years and was even at the bedside with us when my dad passed. It’s no wonder that when I picked him up at JFK airport our conversations picked up right where they left off. I was forced to take this unflattering picture for his family to prove I picked him up. Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy. – MK

Almost 8,000 miles, covering 25 states, in 20 days is ambitious to say the least. Maybe a little too ambitious? I think I have all of my lodging worked out except for one room; that motel won’t let me book until June. Lately my thoughts and planning have been focused on logistics, fine details, and supplies. I’ve purchased supplies for my binder and have been evaluating purchasing a new GPS. I’m using the Penny Collector website to map locations and see if any fall on or near my route. I’m also looking at hours of operation for many of the stops. I need to figure out how early I have to leave each morning to get to a stop before it closes. Complete customer satisfaction. That is the principle that has guided our company along our journey so far, and it remains our goal today.

Am I petty person? I don’t feel like a petty person but this post might suggest I am. The title of this post was lifted directly from the Commitment to Customer Service by Enterprise Holdings, the people who own Enterprise car rental. This (petty) post is all about a horrible interaction I had with the company and why I no longer patronize them. The fact that I’ve held onto the letters and photos in this post after so many years is silly but it demonstrates how bad customer service can really stay with a customer.
